Synopsis
Jenny and her boyfriend Steve leave London for a romantic lakeside weekend. But soon after they arrive a group of teenagers show up with their radio turned up full blast. Steve refuses to put up with this racket and asks them to make less noise. But it becomes immediately clear that the local yobs are not very accommodating, and that their Rotweiller takes after his masters. Genre cinema has recently taken up the theme of “children are not the adorable creatures we think they are” And for good reason, because several news items relating incidents of teenage violence inspired James Watkins to film this paradox of a teenager as a man capable of murder and a yet child seeking protection from his parents. Eden Lake holds the audience from beginning to end thanks to its skilful directing, magnificent photography and excellent teenage acting. And it is an additional treat to see Kelly Reilly step outside of her usual type of role.
